Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) is proud to announce that Mr. Matthew Record, Principal of Pocomoke Middle School, was just awarded Middle School Principal of the Year from Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP).

MASSP, a proud affiliate of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, strives to empower, develop, and connect school leaders to promote educational excellence and equity. As part of their application process for this award, Mr. Record was required to submit letters of recommendation from various colleagues and a student along with a series of steps.

During the surprise announcement on Monday morning, WCPS staff along with Mr. Record’s family met at a public parking lot to caravan over to the school and ventured through a back classroom to ensure they wouldn’t be seen until the announcement. Superintendent Lou Taylor joined Pocomoke Middle School’s morning announcements to reveal the exciting news to not only Mr. Record, but the students and staff at their school.

When describing Mr. Record, Mr. Taylor expressed he is a “consummate leader, a gentleman who comes to work everyday and works hard from the start to the end. He is a great instructional leader, he is a great building manager”, and the list goes on.

Stay tuned… Mr. Record will be competing for the National title of Middle School Principal of the Year!
