Student Teaching Experience (Internship)

Mentor to a Teacher Intern

Serving as a mentor to a pre-service intern (student teacher) contributes to the development of the next generation of high-quality teachers. Having an intern in the classroom lowers the teacher-to-student ratio, enables collaboration and the sharing of new ideas and strategies, and enhances student achievement!

Mentor teachers are:

  • Tenured in Worcester County Public Schools;
  • Are effective or highly effective teachers;
  • Are considered "highly qualified" according to No Child Left Behind standards; and
  • Have been recommended by their principal.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor teacher, please ask your principal for consideration.

If you are serving as a mentor teacher or have just finished serving, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) - in partnership with Worcester County Public Schools - provides mentor teachers with an opportunity to earn three (3) MSDE credits. To review, click or download the ABSTRACT.
