Worcester County is proud to offer after school and summer school academies provided by the 21st Century Learning Center Program Grants. Our mission is to provide a world class education to all students and families. Our county is currently the recipient of three grants located in the county schools that include elementary, middle, and high schools. These grants provide additional services for our After School Academies which emphasizes hands on learning in the areas of reading, math, and STEAM instruction. All students are given the opportunity to experience remediation and enrichment structured around the Project Based Learning Model. These are experiences above and beyond the regular classroom instruction that is exciting and beneficial learning experiences for both students and parents. Other goal of the program include rigorous academic support, homework assistance, character education, service learning, and technology enhanced instruction. In addition, parent partnerships are highly encourages through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers and are included in each school’s calendar.
Parents and students alike are happy knowing they are in a safe, drug-free, environment that allows for extended learning opportunities. Also, free meals and bus transportation are provided for all participants. This ensures that students are healthy, happy, and safe during this extended learning experience.
Each on site administrator oversees the program and provided direct leadership for all activities including parent literacy nights, fieldtrips, guest speakers, and community services that provide a well-rounded experience for the families of Worcester County.
In addition to the Maryland 21st Century Community Learning Center Grants, Worcester County provides After School Academies through local funds through the Board of Education.
