Translation of IEP into Native Language

In accordance with Maryland House Bill 86, Worcester County Public Schools will translate the completed Individualized Education Program (IEP) to the parents’ native language upon request if that native language is spoken by more than one percent 1% of the student population in the school system as determined from Powerschool, the student information database, within thirty (30) days from request.

  1. The native language data will be reviewed each year in Powerschool to verify and identify any language that is more than 1% of the spoken language of the student population.
  2. Worcester County Public Schools will translate the complete IEP to parents’ native language for any language that is more than 1% of the student population when:
    1. Parents’ request the IEP be translated into their native language by:
      1. Requesting this from the case manager at the school, or
      2. Calling the Special Education Office at the Board of Education Office at 410-632-5037
    2. Native language is verified to be more than 1% of the student population
  3. Translation of the finalized IEP will be provided within 30 days of the parent’s request
