Students from Worcester County high schools received awards in the annual Art Competition sponsored by the Ocean City/Berlin Optimist Club.

A total of 27 entries were submitted for the contest and are showcased in the exhibition held at the Worcester County Arts Council’s Gallery in Berlin.

The selection of artwork accepted for the competition, including original paintings and drawings, was judged by former art educator, Gloria Richards.

The competition offered a total of $1,350 in cash prizes to the student artists.
Awards in the painting category were presented to the following students:

1 PLACE: IZZY HUBER - Worcester Preparatory School
2 PLACE: KAYLA HALBIG – Stephen Decatur High School
3 PLACE: CADIE LITTLETON - Stephen Decatur High School
Honorable Mention: ALYSSA GARNER – Snow Hill High School
In the drawing category, awards were given to:
1 PLACE: JACOB PAYNE – Pocomoke High School
2 PLACE: ARIA ISLAM – Worcester Preparatory School
3 PLACE: BRIANAH SHOCKLEY – Snow Hill High School
Honorable Mention: NADIA BULLOCK – Stephen Decatur High School

People’s Choice Award was presented to Jacob Payne, a student at the Pocomoke High School.
The entries in this year’s competition were outstanding. They reflect the high level of interest in the fine arts among Worcester County students and the dedication of our region’s art teachers to strengthening art education and encouraging artistic skills in our high schools.
The exhibit of students’ work will continue to be on display at the Arts Council’s Gallery until February 27th.
Gallery hours are Tuesday – Sunday, 11 am – 3 pm.
