Worcester Technical High School (WTHS) is celebrating a remarkable achievement as more than 60 students placed in the top three at the 2026 SkillsUSA Maryland State Competition. As a result, 25 students have qualified to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 30 WTHS SkillsUSA members and advisors will travel to Atlanta in May to represent Worcester County on the national stage.

Several standout projects highlight the innovation and dedication of WTHS students. For the second consecutive year, the TeamWorks competitors will showcase their talents against the best in the country. A collaborative Community Service Project, developed by a welding student alongside two fire and EMT students, demonstrates real-world impact. The welding student designed and constructed a custom metal box used to simulate the movement of fire and smoke through a burning structure. This training tool will support instructional efforts at the Ocean City Fire Department and the Worcester County training center.

In addition, the Occupational Health and Safety team will present a project focused on promoting safety awareness within the skilled trades, emphasizing the importance of safe practices across industries.

While students have been actively fundraising throughout the year, additional financial support is needed to make this opportunity possible. WTHS is working to raise $100,000 to cover travel, lodging, and competition expenses.
