BIS Sustainable Silver Award

Worcester County Public Schools is celebrating a significant achievement in environmental education, as Berlin Intermediate School has been recognized with a prestigious Sustainable Silver Award by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE).

Berlin Intermediate School is one of only 19 Maryland Green Schools across the state to receive this distinction, which honors schools that demonstrate a sustained and evolving commitment to environmental literacy and stewardship. The Sustainable Silver Award highlights long-term dedication to integrating environmental practices, expanding student learning opportunities, and building a culture of sustainability.

In addition to this recognition, Worcester County Public Schools continues to maintain five certified Maryland Green Schools, reflecting the district’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and responsible practices.

Established in 1999, the Maryland Green Schools program is a nationally recognized initiative that supports schools in incorporating environmental literacy into daily instruction. Schools earn certification through a rigorous process that includes hands-on, inquiry-based learning, student-led initiatives, and measurable efforts in areas such as conservation, waste reduction, and community partnerships.

Through these efforts, Worcester County Public Schools remains committed to preparing students to be informed, environmentally responsible citizens and leaders in their community.
