Newark, MD, August 18, 2026–The Worcester County Board of Education approved two leadership appointments at today’s meeting, naming Melarie Brown as Coordinator of Professional Learning and Talent Development and Nicholas Genovesi as Coordinator of Instruction for Digital Learning, Computer Science, and Technology Education. Both appointments are effective immediately.
Brown returns to Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) after most recently serving as Disability Support Services and Innovation Grant Administrator at Wor-Wic Community College. In that role, she oversaw a federal grant, coordinated multidisciplinary partnerships, analyzed program outcomes, managed project resources and reporting, and supported professional development and training initiatives.
Brown previously spent six years with WCPS, serving as Community School Liaison at Snow Hill Middle School during the 2024-2025 school year and as a kindergarten teacher at Showell Elementary School from 2019 to 2024. Brown earned a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2024, completing research focused on elementary teachers’ perceptions of leadership practices and their effect on employee morale.
Genovesi brings more than 15 years of experience in education to his new role, including the past six years as WCPS District Coach of Instructional Technology and Innovation. In that position, he has led work involving device purchasing and management, development and implementation of the school system’s Technology Strategic Plan, instructional technology coaching, and professional learning for educators.
Prior to moving into his districtwide role, Genovesi taught English at Stephen Decatur Middle and Pocomoke High schools. He is also an Apple Distinguished Educator and Apple Learning Coach and has participated in Salisbury University’s Academy for Leadership in Education.
