NEWARK, MD – Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) is proud to celebrate Ocean City Elementary School Counselor Mrs. Linda McGean, who was recognized by the Ocean City Fire Department during a surprise ceremony on Wednesday, October 28, for her more than 24 years of dedication to fire prevention education.
In recognition of her longstanding commitment to student safety and her partnership with the Ocean City Fire Department, the department announced that its annual fire prevention poster contest will officially be renamed The Linda McGean Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest.
For more than two decades, Mrs. McGean has played an instrumental role in connecting Ocean City Elementary School students with important fire safety education, helping generations of children develop the knowledge and skills needed to keep themselves and their families safe.
“Linda McGean has helped generations of Ocean City Elementary students learn how to keep themselves and their families safe,” said Superintendent Dr. Annette E. Wallace. “As a school counselor, she understands that caring for children extends beyond the classroom, and her longstanding partnership with the Ocean City Fire Department reflects that commitment. We are so grateful to the department for honoring her with such a beautiful tribute to the lasting difference she has made in the lives of our students and our community.”
Ocean City Fire Chief Josh Bunting also praised Mrs. McGean's contributions, noting that her dedication has helped thousands of students understand the importance of fire safety and that naming the contest in her honor will ensure her legacy continues to inspire future generations.
The celebration, attended by students, school administrators, and WCPS leadership, also recognized this year's first-, second-, and third-place poster contest winners. Student artwork was displayed during the ceremony, showcasing both their creativity and their understanding of important fire prevention messages.
WCPS congratulates Mrs. McGean on this well-deserved honor and extends its appreciation to the Ocean City Fire Department for recognizing her lasting impact on students and the community.
