SDHS Key Club Rings in an Award!🔔 The month of December ushers in a season of festive lights and sounds of merriment. For the Stephen Decatur High School Key Club, it also marks the sound of bell ringing. Senator Mary Beth Carozza, a proud #SDHSAlum, recently congratulated the Key Club and, on behalf of the Lower Eastern Shore Salvation Army, presented the group with an award recognizing its outstanding participation in the bell ringing campaign. While members of the Stephen Decatur High School Key Club are proud to accept the honor of placing in the top three of the Lower Eastern Shore for Salvation Army bell ringing, they do not participate for the recognition. “Our members are just very community-oriented,” Co-Advisor Becky Kalchthaler said. The Key Club is extremely involved in service projects from coat and peanut butter and jelly drives to blood drives to fundraising for various charitable endeavors. However, the club’s involvement in the Salvation Army bell ringing campaign is well established. The club has consistently been invited to celebrate Salvation Army fundraising milestones and has previously placed first in hours served. Mathletes = Strong Performance 💪 Our math team competed today in the 40th Annual Eastern Shore Mathematics Competition at Salisbury University. Our team of Benjamin Chase, Mara Mills, Logan Donmoyer, and Tyler Kim placed 2nd out of 20 schools. Additionally, Tyler Kim placed 2nd in the individual competition. Congratulations to our Unified Tennis Team on winning the Maryland State Championship!🎾🔥 The team went 10 and 1 on the day, dominating the highest division in the state. Excellent performances by our state pairs Blaine Coleman and Keagan Shump, Max Jacobs and Addison Conley, Julia Molnar and Lo Malinowski, Noah Dirikson and Liam Moran, Raymond Molnar and Ben Powers. Additionally, the team won the State Sportsmanship Award, an award voted on by all 16 participating schools. This is the first Unified Tennis State Championship in Stephen Decatur High School, as well as Worcester County Public Schools MD, history.
