Pocomoke High School celebrated the grand opening of its community garden last night! Guests enjoyed fresh food samples made on site, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and even harvested produce from the garden beds. The event also revealed the garden’s name, chosen by community vote — Warrior Roots. A huge thank you to UMES Extension 4-H, UMD Extension, and the Worcester County Health Department for partnering with PHS to make this initiative possible. #PartnershipsInAction #WeAreWorcester

Over the past few weeks, Worcester County fifth graders stepped outside the classroom to spend two days of outdoor learning at Pocomoke River State Park: Shad Landing. Last week marked the final trips of the fall season!
Students explored part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed through canoeing, fishing, pond study, forest exploration, and more. These hands-on experiences gave students meaningful opportunities to connect with the natural world in lasting ways.
A big thank you to our partners at Pocomoke River State Park and the staff at Shad Landing for making this experience possible. These photos are just a glimpse of the fun and discovery that took place! #WeAreWorcester #WCPSEnvironmentalLiteracy

Art teachers participated in an excellent MAEA (Maryland Art Education Association) at Sby ArtSpace on Friday! Teachers explored learning how to help students create art illustrating the theme "heroes and villains" through a TAB process (Teaching Artistic Behavior). They also created keychains using mixed media and learned from UMES student and local artist Nayani Rose. #WeAreWorcester #ArtsAreAliveInWorcester #MDArtPD

Last week, WCPS wrapped up a wonderful two day Youth Ambassador Retreat for high school students in SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). They participated in sessions to learn about to help their peers make healthy decisions. Thanks to our health dept friends and supporters, as well as the Salisbury University health communications majors who came and presented to the SADD groups. Each group also designed their own school SADD cornhole boards to use at advocacy events! #WeAreWorcester #PartnershipsInAction #MakingHealthyDecisions #SADD #BeSmartDontStart

We are aware of an incident that took place at approximately 4:56 p.m. on Monday, October 13, outside of Pocomoke Elementary School (PES). After exiting the building, a PES employee was struck by an unidentified object. Since that time, our partners at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) launched an investigation into the circumstances of this incident.
As this is an active investigation, we cannot share any additional information at this time. Out of an abundance of caution, WCSO has had an increased presence in the area. Should anyone have any information about this incident, please contact Detective Layton of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office by calling (410) 632-2076.

Yesterday kicked off an amazing Youth Ambassador Retreat for our Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) middle school groups. Thank you to the Worcester County Health Department, who taught students about healthy eating, substance abuse prevention, and effective communication skills. Thank you to Salisbury University's communication students who taught students about advocacy and creating health-focused campaigns to reach their peers. Special thanks to the Berlin Fire Company, who generously offered indoor space when the rain and wind at Assateague was a bit too much to bear. We look forward to working with our high school SADD groups at their retreat next! #WeAreWorcester
